Mt. Rainier Day.
That is one BIG mountain! And there was SNOW! The real stuff! Not the man made stuff they show you at the Golden Gate Community Center. This was real SNOW! And lots of it!
We saw several views of the mountain, bathed in glorious sunshine and blue skies. We hiked a vista trail that had some incredible stopping points - each view more amazing than the one before it. We saw what used to be the hot springs (pretty cold water now - but still bubbling), and some old settlement structures.
The weather was wonderful when we went inside the visitor center to watch the film; 20 minutes later when we went back outside - the clouds were moving over the mountain and the storm clouds were moving in from the south.
We were able to finish our hike, saw the waterfall, and were on our way back to the car when we started to feel the sprinkles; and it rained on our trip back down the mountain. First rain we've seen in quite awhile. And it didn't rain at our campsite.
I guess we were pretty lucky to get the views of the mountain that we did - how quickly it all changed!
