Day 45

Sunday, July 14

Drove north along the coastline, stopped at the Oregon Sand Dunes - quite chilly and a little foggy along the shoreline.

Kept going north - by the time we got to the sea lions, it was really cold, windy, and foggy - we decided not to stop and kept going.

Picked up US 20 and drove east (inland) and finally got warm again.

We were going to stop for the night south of Portland, but when we hit I-5, we had made such good time that we thought we'd just cruise on up north of Portland and put ourselves in good position to visit Mt. St. Helen's and Mt. Rainier tomorrow and Tuesday.  Bad move...  Big mistake...  Hug-ah!

Traffic was horrific on the 5 heading north.  The one good thing - we were going slow enough that I could get some shots of Mt. Hood in the distance.  When we finally did get off for the night, there was no vacancy at the park!  We had to get back on and drive more.  The minute we got into Washington, the traffic cleared and we had smooth sailing.

Pulled into a beautiful park on the Columbia River (got their last available site!) and settled in for the night.

Longggggg day!
